Here's a spreadsheet I've just set up to track this competition. One file is .xlsx for Excel 2007 and the other is .xls for earlier versions of Excel (should open in OpenOffice ok as well).

I entered one result from Saturday for my team (Man Utd) so you'll want to remove that and add your result from last weekend for your own team. Also you'll want to add your own link to your own team's results page on ESPN (which seems to have some pretty decent stats, is there a better place for stats?).

Just put in the all the details of the match and how many red/yellow cards there were and '1' if the manager was sent to the stands. The total for that match will be calculated in the last column and the overall totals should be calculated at the very bottom of the table. I added 100 rows to the table, don't think there'll be anywhere near that but just in case

As it`s a monthly comp and yesterday was the first of the month Julie`s entry is fine...or at least that`s how I see it, feel free to correct me if i`m wrong ;-)

But according to the results thread its operating from 28th September to 26th October, so the Norwich game would count, giving Julie the chance to pick a team who already had 20 points

Good point, anyone can join at any time they want to, but when they do they start on 0 and only get points from that day onwards. Also no swapping teams!

Munk, im sure the spreadsheet is awsome but im going to be brutally honest with you here, what do i do with it? I was just going to write my totals down on a scrap of paper each week and have a sort of 5 bar gate thing :-)

Please note that the first post of this thread has changed to clarify the terms and conditions of the dirty football competition. Can everyone please have a quick glance over it.

There are no great changes to the competition - the main changes/clarifications are:

  • The winner will be the person who's team scores the highest average points per match per month rather than the highest points in total per month (to make it fairer on those people who's teams play fewer matches than others in a month)
  • Your results must be reported within 3 days of the last match of the month to qualify for the competition
  • The winner will be announced within 5 days of the last match of the month along with details of the prize
Shout if you think there are any problems or anything that needs further clarification(!). And no, we are not sponsored by square blue things.

All the best.

Welcome onboard Globalsquare definitely room for more!

There's a list of all the current players -> teams over on the other thread in this forum, I'll add it to the first post in this thread and keep it up to date.

LOL... like Man Utd, they got 16 yellows in the month before I picked them (I honestly didn't find that out until I looked after I'd picked them!) and since then they've had maybe 5 or so...

No it's never too late you could register in the last month of the season if you wanted as long as your team's not been chosen already and you only include games from the time you signed up to the end of that month.

Actually that's a point we won't be able to take this all the way up to the very end of the season will we since the winner of the last month won't have any games to bet on?! Maybe there'll be some cunning finale bet fest though who knows...!

edit: I'll add this later tonight, if I don't do it by tomorrow send me a PM! Cheers.
edit2: never mind I did it already

It seems I have been living a sheltered existence over at the SPORTSBOOK BONUSES thread. If I had realised that there was a Chopper Harris thread I would have sliding tackled my way over here ages ago!

I know this is a bit of a late challenge, but can I take on Tottenham?

I was just wondering if a player gets two yellows which is a red if you get 10 points for the two yellows or 20 points for the two yellows and a red? Doubt its the latter but thought id ask anyway
*EDIT* Think ive answered own question, I suppose we will go by the espn stats. Eg birmingham has player sent off for two yellows at the weekend but it is reported in stats as a yellow and a red for that player and the match, not two yellows and a red. I suppose it is a way you could settle the comp if there was a tie and there happened to be a team who had had a straight reds instead of two bookable offences etc, but I dont know if you could class one dirtier than the other unless it was some kind of horror tackle.
